The Family We Are!
Isaac and Deby Aho, along with their four children, moved to Cape Town in December 2010. After a year of integrating and making friendships, in the township of Masiphumelele, South Africa ~ they believed God was giving them direction to start different companies that would employ and empower the people in the township. With unemployment rates of almost 80%, the poverty was high and one of the deep causes for many of the social difficulties and problems. Issues such as, HIV/AIDs, child abuse/neglect, drug and alcohol abuse, gang activity, baby dumping and witchcraft are part of the daily life.
Living Way is an adult skills training campus just outside the township of Masiphumelele and that is who they are teamed up to provide a space for the training and discipleship.
The dream in their heart is not just to produce another product, but to come along side their friends and speak life into who they were created to be. They believe that the Lord has uniquely and creatively placed talents, passions and abilities into each person. The job skills is an opportunity to help identify those dreams and begin the process to walk them out. It also gives them the opportunity to provide for their family and needs.
Nomonde is a mother of three beautiful girls, Busiswa (25), Kholeka (23) and Nothemba (19), and a grandmother to Sikelela (7). She is
currently living in Masiphumelele, but grew up in the Eastern Cape in a very poor family. She moved to Cape Town about 23 years ago in hopes
of finding work to provide for her young children.
Nomonde, a very skilled seamstress and pattern maker, first learned to sew nearly 20 years ago, when working as domestic worker. The Lord led the team right to her on the streets of Masi, and has really began to take charge of much of the project. She is training the young girls who haven’t had any exposure to sewing. She has dreams to see the people of Masiphumelele get work, and to see her daughters follow their dreams to the career they are passionate about. She also has a heart to see single mothers raise up, to not give into their circumstances, work hard, and give their families hope
Hannah Siegrist has been in South Africa since May of 2011 pouring her heart into young women. She volunteers with Baby Safe, Vulnerable Children and is part of the long term Community Transformations team.
She is a portrait, family, wedding, and travel photographer. She picked up a camera in 2006 and quickly discovered her passion for capturing life. In 2010, Hannah studied photography with YWAM’s PhotogenX DTS. Since then, she has been traveling the world and doing her own freelance photography. She is training the women in graphic design for the scrubs and also has done all the photography. Her spirit brings life and freedom to this family of Thanda Scrubs and the women are being discipled through this.
Her heart is to see missional communities planted worldwide.
These are some of the beautiful women that are being trained to sew the medical hats, lab coats and scrubs. Some of them are first starting on the bunting with the Motherhood Is Beautiful program and then on to more advanced products.
